Cape Town’s Maitland Industrial Areas are as follows:
Often referred to as “the Avenues” this is the area running from Kensington Road along Voortrekker Road to the N7. It consists of small to medium size commercial buildings along Voortrekker Road, with warehouse and factory buildings running down the various avenues up to the residential area of Kensington. This was previously a textile and clothing area and still has some large clothing factories operating, many of which have factory shops and outlets attached to them. The major property in this area is Maitland Industrial Park, a more modern industrial park owned by Growthpoint Property Fund.
Maitland Industrial area is often mistakenly called Ndabeni. This is the area from Sunrise Circle, running along Berkley Road to the M5 and the warehouses and factories situated along it and off the side streets. This is a very popular area for all kinds of industries large and small, mainly because of its close proximity an access to the M5. There are some large food processors in this area such as Oil and Margarine Manufacturer, the Willowton Group. Gateway Industrial Park and Berbax Industrial Park cater for small to medium size industrial tenants in this area. Youngman’s Roofing is an iconic industrial building along with Panther Park, the old Panther shoe factory which was upgraded into an industrial and multi-use building.
Maitland Commercial 1
This is a sought after area running between Koeberg Road and the M5 along both sides of Voortrekker Road. Some of these properties are highly visible from the M5 and have close access to the M5 and Salt River. There is quick access to Paarden Eiland Vai Koeberg Road onto Black River Parkway. A landmark building was the Prestige CLothing factory that has recently been upgraded to an office building.
Maitland Commercial 2
This is the commercial and industrial area from the Kensington, where Voortrekker Road crosses over the railway line up to the Cannon Street Voortrekker Road junction. The area consists of mainly industrial buildings along Voortrekker Road, with warehouse and factory buildings up to the Railway line.
Ndabeni is one of the most sought-after industrial areas in Cape Town, being next to Pinelands with its Howard Shopping Centre offering various amenities. Sunrise Buildings, the old Sunrise Toffees building, now converted to a commercial and retail complex is a major landmark in the area. Pinelands Business Park is a popular multi-use mini unit complex in the area. The ever-popular Merrypak factory outlet is situated here.
This is a small pocket of industrial buildings that hardly ever become available for rent or sale. This is the area along Oudemolen Road bounded by Berkley, Alexandra and Ndabei Roads. Due to its close proximity to Vincent Palotti Hospital, this area is favoured by Medical supply companies.
